Welcome to Worth the Walk, where two sisters chat about generations, raising kids, and family life with honesty, heart, and plenty of laughs. No perfection here, people, just real conversation as we walk it all out together. Let's get started. And once again, it's a lovely time of day on a Sunday afternoon to be recording for our Monday. To focus on the trips we did on Wednesday to sum up the whole week. Hello, Claudette. Hello, Miss Sherry. How you doing? Great today. I slept terrible. Like, not like, oh, none of good night. I mean, horrifically horrible. To the point where I was literally going to be up at 4 a.m. and say, screw it, I'm up. That's it. What's going on? No idea. Moon, maybe? I don't know. Sound asleep. Snoring, you know, that glorious snore I like to do that shatters walls and rattles windows. I know it intimately, yes, I do.
SPEAKER_01You and I had a sleepover, remember?
SPEAKER_00I'm sure the other people in the hotel rooms as well were going, what's going on? Yeah, so 2 30 a.m. this morning. I woke up with a pain in my back that I have never felt before in my life. I mean, I was I was like gasping for air and holding on to the sides. It was like I tore a muscle in my back. I've hurt myself while I was sleeping.
SPEAKER_01I heard a muscle turning over. Sleep. Gosh.
SPEAKER_00Are you okay? Oh yeah. But then you couldn't get back to sleep? No, I was a mess because every time I tried to turn, I mean, it was like having a muscle spasm. It was horrific. It was just horrible. Well, I hope you woke John up to experience all the awakeness with you. Oh, I didn't know. You let him sleep. Oh, it did not sweet. And I said I got up real early and came downstairs and I tried to put those uh salon pads. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Could you read it? No, I couldn't do. But my God, if there was a video. If there was only video in the house as you watched me going circles, you know how you walk in circles thinking that somehow that's gonna make your arm longer? Like somehow gonna take it from your finger and put it where it needs to be. So I figured, okay, that's not gonna work. So I found a heating pad. So here I am trying to bend over and thinking, I can't get back up because so I got the heating pad on, and then I took some Advil, and then I made my coffee, and I just sat there and went, okay. So how are you now? I mean you're looking pretty good. I'm fantastic. Okay, good. It worked. Two Advil, some salon paws, medicated heated, heated heating pad, uh three cups of coffee. Let's go, let's go back in three cups of pad.
SPEAKER_01You do seem a little amped up, but I'm just gonna say I am ready. Let's bring it on. You're talking about the the heat. I put my I always say this, I joke around with the kids because I can say it correctly, but I always call it the heater seater, cedar heater. Oh my car. This is so cold out this morning. I put my heater seater, my cedar heater on in my car this morning. But those that's helpful for your back too. Go for a little put your heated seat on in your car. I'm gonna forget up on my chair over there with the heating thing.
SPEAKER_00I'm sorry. Like, I mean, it's sad when you can hurt yourself while you're sleeping. You can pull the muscle, like while you're sleeping. I sneezed once and hurt my neck. Come on, let's just be honest. So, anyways, that's how I started my morning, but I'm great. So, and the week was good. I mean, even though it was cold and rainy, the weather has been like the pits.
SPEAKER_01I had the best drive over this morning. I was listening to the Rolling Stones. I had my coffee. Oh my god. I was just like cruise control. Oh, a little bit of rain. I love it. A little bit of sprinkle. I'm good with a little sprinkle.
SPEAKER_00I know. I just it could warm up a little, but I have to tell you, John and I went for a walk yesterday and we took Minnie and we went down to the river. Um the fishermen are nuts. I mean, they're just fishing 24-7 around here, like 24-7, middle of the night. We're talking all the time. All right. And they're in the middle of that high tide with their their waders on and and fishing and fishing and fishing. So, anyways, we went down there and we could see them all fishing, and we could walk in through the woods, and we kind of went down in to see where these were these eagles. Like there were so many of them. It was no less than maybe half a dozen, just circling and and doing all this. So I said, it was low tide, so I know they were diving for the fish, right? Simply because I see them in my own backyard. Then this asprey went past us, and I'm hoping I'm saying that correctly. Osprey.
SPEAKER_01Osprey. I thought you were trying to refer to someone who was fishing, maybe calling them an asshat or something. An osprey.
SPEAKER_00An ossprey, okay. Yeah. It was enormous. Yeah. And I, you know how I love to exaggerate, right? But it was no more than maybe four feet above our head. And it swarmed down. Oh my goodness. Came down, went down in through the water. So I've got a video. It's only four seconds because it's on my phone. It's not on my good, my good camera or nothing like that. So I'm gonna give it to you so you can put it up. I want everybody to see it. This thing was enormous, and that video does not do it justice. Oh my gosh, it was huge, absolutely enormous.
SPEAKER_01We have eagles at our place too on the river, and there's a tree, a dead tree that's across the river where they always perch. And with my little doggies, I mean, Minnie is big enough and scary enough. Yeah, she they're not gonna come and pick her up. But little Minnie or little Daisy and little Louie. Yeah, that's snack time. Snacks. Yeah. They're just a little little nibble.
SPEAKER_00Uh one's an appetizer and one's dinner. That's right. Okay, so yeah.
SPEAKER_01So, yes. So we have the place where they typically go and run all the time. We have a little, we have a fenced in area that they just go and run free. It's quite covered by tree cover during the spring and summer and fall.
SPEAKER_00And a little difficult for those eagles to kind of maneuver through. If they were gonna swoop in, it would be hard. They wouldn't get out their eagle, their wings would be like caught up in the house and the porch and the railing and the overheads.
SPEAKER_01I mean, where you put it is a very good idea. I think it's a good spot, but we want to take them out off-leash more. So we've been taking them in the yard because they're so they're just so sweet. They just want to be with you everywhere all the time.
SPEAKER_00I know. So we bring over Minnie so Minnie can swim, and they like to swim out to Minnie. I know. And Minnie's three of them put together, right? So you know, three daisies still doesn't equal one minute.
SPEAKER_01Louie's legs might be two inches. His legs might be two, maybe two and a half inches high. His little legs.
SPEAKER_00And he's and he's a bat out of hell tried to catch Minnie. And then he gets tired. And then he's wore out. He's like, that's it. I'm done now. Stop, stop. He's done till the next day. Like that's a work out.
SPEAKER_01Anyway, they're so adorable. We had uh it was a good week, Sher. Yeah, and I didn't I'd actually completed a one step better. We actually took the hike, and we'll get into that later. But I was like, I I accomplished, I feel like I accomplished things this week.
SPEAKER_00So I I was my one step better. I've got a I've got a block here. It was the hike. I was gonna steal you and use my little camera, and you and we were gonna, you know, take the pictures of the mushrooms and the herbs and whatever. Remember, we were gonna watch that walk naturally through the woods.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, our naked pot walk.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Don't even do it. Yeah. So uh what else did I do? So um my my yoga class was phenomenal to the point where I've actually even gotten a book from the yoga instructor on, you know, being more in tune with yourself to balance yourself, to understand the meaning of yoga, right? So not it not just you know, downward dog and table and all of that. There's there's there's a whole philosophy and religion, I use that kind of wrongly, I think, to behind yoga. Practice. It's is so much more. It's so energy and grounding. So, anyways, I've I've got that, and that's behind me, and I did it. And I will share with everybody, I did a reading. Now that was a a one step better from before, but I did a reading on a person that I do not know. I was the first time I met her. Might have been the second time. I think there might have been a family.
SPEAKER_01But you don't know much about them. They're a friend of my daughter's.
SPEAKER_00So I don't know. Yeah, I don't, I have no insight to um anything about her. Um, and I'm gonna say I was nervous. I was really nervous because, you know, what if say something? What if a card turns up that I actually know the meaning? Am I supposed to actually say it out loud, or do I kind of make it lighter and something? So so all this was running through my head, and I'm thinking, will I do a good job? Anyways, I had I heard back that she really liked it and she would like to do it again, and she, you know, was pleased. So she had good takeaways from it. She did, and I gave myself a little pat on the back. So there you go. So with our one step better, I feel like I've accomplished everything that I've set it to do. Uh when I can't remember what we said yesterday. What was what did you say? I said I was going to kidnap you. Oh, yes, it is. That's right. Yes. I didn't actually kidnap you because we met there. So you Yeah, I went willingly. Yeah, you went willingly.
SPEAKER_01I went willingly and we we did we did keep all our clothes on, and no pot with smoking was involved.
SPEAKER_00No, we didn't actually keep all our clothes on, and we were doing today at the very end.
SPEAKER_01Oh my gosh. I wanted to have a little visual of this as well. We actually did have a naked walk once we got home. Yeah, we'll get into that later. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Oh gosh. So, Cher, um, as we talk about today's episode, and I think we both came to the conclusion we really wanted to talk about uh uh go take a hike. So that's that's our that's our episode today, is go take a hike, right? So we'll talk about our journey of a physical hike. We put the boots on and the jacket on, and we walk through the woods and we came out with uh more um natural ideas of what our next one will look like. So but when we talk about a hike, right, it can be there's so many um you know, analogies or metaphors when we talk about hiking, right? And one, you know, very simply was uh that I really like because I read through probably two dozen, right? I thought to myself, I'll make all these metaphors. And I thought, well, that's way too many to remember, so I'm not gonna do it. But there was a couple that really stuck with me, right? So, you know, when you are going on a hike, ideally you pack a bag, you've got a destination, um, you've planned for it. And one of the things you and I said, let's make a list of 10 items that we bring on a hike. That's what we said together, right? So the analogy I have in life is we pack our bags when the children are young and we overpack. Like I said, we bring six shirts and 20 snacks and uh extra this and extra that. Like that bag is heavy, right? The first time you're a young mom and you've got the outing. You have prepared for everything. And that bag weighs a ton. And you know, a little joke. Mom normally spent uh six hours packing the bag while dad picked it out at the last five minutes and put it in the car. So dad, well, let's say partner, okay, is always there to help. But mom thinks about all the items that go inside that bag. And when we go for a hike, it's the same thing. You think about the items that are in there, and the first time you go for a hike, you put a lot in that bag, right? Because you never know when it's your first hike. As a parent, that bag is heavy. And as you go through life and the next trip and the next trip, you don't put 16 snacks because you realize they didn't want the snacks anyways. They wanted a treat when you got to the destination. They wanted something a little bit special. So you pack the health that you wanted to do, and then made uh plans or thoughts of how you would make it even more fun with a treat at the other end. So there's not 60 snacks, there's only six. And you didn't need 16 sweaters, you realize the kids are either gonna have the jacket on or off. That's it. That's what they're gonna do, right? And the extra shirt when the popsicle's all over the face, right? So as you go through life, that bag gets lighter and lighter, hopefully. Right? And as you get to the let's say the last few stages, right? They're they're at home with just husband or and and we're you know, sitting in a house alone, our bag is very light. And it became light through growth, knowledge, journey, experience. Experience.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I mean, unless you have kids who like to collect rocks and then you're putting rocks in your bag and it gets exponentially heavier.
SPEAKER_00Or shells.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I once came over the beach. I want to keep this one. I came over the beach from Joshua, and I had a baggie that was filled right to the top of shelves. Yeah, he never asked for that bag again.
SPEAKER_01It was like that was okay. But that was fun what they did on the way.
SPEAKER_00But the you know, analogy of the metaphors of life is you get wiser as you take more steps on that hike. The more hikes you take, the more wiser you get. Um, and with that statement, I have 10 items.
SPEAKER_01So I feel like we might have got our wires crossed. I look at hike as in what do I want to get rid of? What can I say can take a hike? I love that. I that I took the analogy of you know what, I've done that, did that, done that, that can take a hike. Okay. Okay. I'm gonna give you my tent of what I would bring with me. And mine, mine is things that I need to release or let go. So I'm like, take a hike is in my so my my metaphor was like get out of hike, get out of here, take a hike.
SPEAKER_00Right.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00See everybody. This is why Cher and I don't talk before honestly. I thought we did, but I feel like my brain.
SPEAKER_01Your brain, I kind of I love how you I love how you interpreted.
SPEAKER_00Okay. And I'm loving how you interpreted yours. I love that. This is awesome. Okay, come on. Come on, that's too funny. That's great, eh? So my 10 items. Are we doing it now? So this is my 10 items. Are we doing it right now? Yes, we are. We're doing it right now. Yeah, but I'm giving you my 10 items that I would put in my bag. Yeah, because I thought about okay. And I'm more knowledgeable.
SPEAKER_01Oh my god, I love this.
SPEAKER_00And my bag will be lighter and better packed because I had growth and experience. All right. This is so deep. I'm so deep. Mine is look way deep. My stuff to take a hike is like I love your stuff too. Okay, okay. But but now I gotta think about 10 things I'd like to. I have to take about 10 things. I want to Okay, this is it. Put in my backpack. So this is this is gonna be my backpack for our hikes because we're not giving up on the hikes. We have to get mushrooms.
SPEAKER_01We're totally totally doing this, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Like regular mushrooms, like like the regular lunch. No, they're all edible. You can't even say edible anymore. So you can't say edible. So uh uh healthy, um, non-mind altering. It's like uh mushrooms. There we go. Okay, non, non-communication.
SPEAKER_01But I was thinking like culinary.
SPEAKER_00Culinary, that's better. Gosh, you're far more look.
SPEAKER_01I got it, girlfriend. Up it's up there.
SPEAKER_00You are just have to pull it out ticket. Okay, let's go. I got it. Okay, my ten things. Can't wait. So hike bag. Got it? We have water, tick and bug spray. All right. Okay, gloves to pick the things that we want, because you want your hands covered just in case we touch something we're not supposed to touch. All right. Uh bags to put the things that we pick in inside of those bags so that we can take them home and that'll be great. A flashlight. It gets dark when we're trying to look underneath the logs. Yeah. And we try to look up inside the right. So we can see, right? Phone that is fully charged. Now we have to download the app so it requires no data. Because if it requires the data and you're walking on your hike, you run into the situation where you're trying to use your phone up into the cloud there. Yeah. So that's it. Obviously, a knapsack and a good knapsack, a healthy one with the wide things on your arm and it's evenly balanced. So it's not a bag that I'm throwing over my shoulder. Okay. Towelettes. Just in case when you're walking, you need to go to the wardrobe, right? I mean, if it's a very, very long walk and you've just had two cups of coffee and you didn't think to go before.
SPEAKER_01And then you're on the trail, and then it's like, oh, I really want to focus on bangs, but I can't. Because I gotta pee.
SPEAKER_00And you know, just from experience. So uh snacks. So light, healthy snacks. All right. So either a granola bar or some chopped-up fruits of some sort. Okay. Okay. And then the other part is extra socks. And I thought of the extra socks because uh my hiker who was with me this week chose to wear no socks inside of very low-ankled, nicely dressed little pair of pants. And there's ticks. The ticks are everywhere.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So that's my 10 things that I've thought about as I would be able to move my way through and have a wonderful hike in and out off the path.
SPEAKER_01Okay. And we did. We went off the path. We went, there was a little fork in the road and we decided which way to go. And then once we got off that path, we thought, you know what? Let's actually just go into the woods. Let's just walk off the path path.
SPEAKER_00Uh rather be offbeating path. And I have two metaphors for all of those things as well. But we're gonna now it's yours because yours is take a hike.
SPEAKER_01Mine is mine is take a hike. So I like it. So I really went with metaphorically. So it's it's the I don't need you. And I here's the thing too, people. A lot of times people will set intentions or um do New Year's resolutions in January. And in January, you'll be like, you know what? Here's my resolutions for the year. Here's the things I want to do. You know what? I don't typically set resolutions because I just well, I, well, I set myself up for disappointment, folks. Let's just be honest. But at the same time, it's like, no, I I feel like there's a whole, there's 12 months in the year, and I think every time we're at the halfway point. This is a great, we're at, we're almost halfway through 2026, people. And it is never too late to take a good hard look at the things that just aren't working and tell them to take a hike.
SPEAKER_00I love it.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Okay. Love it. So here it is. Okay. I feel like David Letterman. Remember to do the top 10 list? Okay. And I need my glasses. Yeah.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_01So spotty or zero cell service in my house or driving on the number two highway. Take a hike. Don't hike. I'm done with, I'm done with it.
SPEAKER_00I have to tell you, it's the most freaking irritating thing. I am halfway through a conversation with Samantha or Matthew or or Gloria. And I said, I mean, it's in Sherry's house, I'm gonna miss you. Are you gonna drop and I'd love you? See you later. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I think I could probably reach the International Space Station easier than I could make a phone call to you or to my son who lives in an auto. Yeah. So it's terrible.
SPEAKER_00You know my solution. It's what we have. I told you. Starting. Oh.
SPEAKER_01I'm telling you. Anyway, so I have a company coming to my home because we have had we're trying to watch the very important hockey game Friday, and we ended up having to just stop and give up and go to bed because we lost internet for what we five, we have to reboot, reboot five times we tried. Anyway, I digress. Number, number two, having to decide what's for supper every single day for everyone for the rest of eternity. Like, why is that? Why do I have to do that?
unknownI don't know.
SPEAKER_01You know what, people figure it out. I'm done. I'm done figuring out what you're gonna have for supper every night of my life. So I'm done with that. Uh, number three, um, the guilt of not staying in touch often enough, and that could be with anyone. I don't want to feel guilty about it because the people who I do keep in touch with, months can go by and we connect, and we we both don't feel we share that. We both don't feel guilty because we just know each other's lives are so busy and we both have a mutual appreciation for for what we what we share when we do have the time to share it, okay? I'm loving it. Uh number four, the highway traffic speed. It's getting too fast. I'm serious. People, it doesn't matter how fast you're going, someone's always going faster. You know what, folks, and the price of gas, I'm just gonna tell you, if you set your like 108 to 112, you're burning optimal fuel. And who cares? Just give yourself enough time to get where you're going.
SPEAKER_00It's and you realize it's only at best five to ten minutes difference from point A to point A. Exactly, but it could make twenty dollars difference. And it really could save a life. Uh there's the most important part. I I got cut off yesterday. And I won't tell you how fast I'm going because you know sometimes my my my my your foot's heavy. Yeah, it's a it it weighs a little bit heavier on that pedal. So I was, you know, over that number that you said. And I was in the fast lane as I was making my way up to pass a truck that was further ahead. And this car came up behind me and then cut in into the slow lane back over to the fast lane in just enough time between the truck and me, just so that they could get ahead of me, right? And they were really going fast. Yeah. Take a hike, people. Take a hike. That that's take a hike. That's insanity. I'm done. I'm gonna support you on that one. I'm done on that one. Actually, I'll support you on the okay.
SPEAKER_01Uh number five, I'm I'm kind of like take a hike. I'm meeting people's energy, whether it's low, high, weird. I don't know. I'm famous for doing this. I'll go somewhere, someone's like up, up, up, up, and I'm like, yeah, I'll I'll meet you. Or if someone's really like low, I tend to like take it on too. So I'm like, no, stop doing that, Cherry. Take take a hike. Um, overconsumption of everything. So social media, food, drink, those. sense of things over consumption.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Take it, take it.
SPEAKER_01Oh, staying up late. Hey. I'm like so over that now. Yeah. I can't stay up late. No. Our our book club is the latest I stay up. I know. I could see you making eye contact with me. You're like, can we please, please, can we please leave? I can see your eyes like, I need to leave. I am so tired.
unknownI have to go to bed.
SPEAKER_01So I'm gonna oh so I'm on this this whole year is when all of my friends that I went to high school we all turned 50. So yesterday was another celebration and it was Carolyn's 50th and my friend Kim and Peter they hosted in their home all of her family who've flown in her her children all of our all of our school friends we all got together again and Jan and Tara and Matt and Kelly oh my gosh it was just it was amazing. I bet no no the best part started at three ended at seven oh come on a round of applause. I'm like I mean the only thing better is like going to see Fleetwood Mac at three in the afternoon. I don't like come on this is it can we talk about early afternoons and getting to bed early hey okay I love it. That's a super high five right on okay um number eight oh parking parking close to the doors park far away get moving people if you can walk park as far away as you possibly can and and people are also jerks because they slam their doors into your cars. Yeah park far away yeah walk I'm loving to it I started doing this a while ago and I'm like this is the best thing yeah bring with you okay 100% oh talking about daylight savings I'm like you know what if you're gonna change it change it and if you don't don't shut the hell up about it. I don't want to talk about daylight savings anymore. No here it's either gonna stay or it's gonna go but can we not talk every time it comes here it's like the first snowfall of the year. You know it's coming I know you know it's happening.
SPEAKER_00But where do we live people can we can we not talk about things that are the dumbest thing I've ever heard of in my life take a hike take a hike take a hike I'm all over it. Okay and then my last one is ticks okay take a hike ticks we're done we're done we're done yes so with that lovely little intro with ticks what if we talk about our journey through the woods you and I all right and we were so um attentive we were looking down the entire time I sprayed you you did I did spray myself too I actually had socks on pants with a little thing on it and uh rubber boots all right rubber shoes I suppose they were they were totally appropriate yeah not kind of like white running shoes that you had then that were just quite beautiful with bear socks and coolets on that's my best sneakers they had little angle socks I know they were gorgeous and you could see my calves almost yeah like I don't know what I was thinking I have no idea I know so anyways people we're walking along and we're taking our pictures and using our phone and we are gathering pictures of what we thought was good. I was very very good at picking berries I could identify berries without even using my phone I said that looks like a blackberry that looks like a raspberry lots of blueberries yes gooseberry yeah so going through so anyways we we get it all done we say goodbye Sherry gets in her car I get in mine we drive our way home sherry take your tick situation so we always said at the beginning of this this was not a nature walk as we were back naked and going through in smoking pot however let's go natural walk yeah so I I get home and I'm I'm I'm I'm on a I'm on a call and I'm trying to just be polite and professional and I I feel at first I touch my forehead because I'm like feels funny and and I'm I'm on a Teams call but I don't have a camera on thank God so then I'm just too cheap.
SPEAKER_01So then I then I a couple minutes go by and I reach behind my ear and I feel the tick and I yank it off and I'm panicking and I'm flick it off and it's on the floor and then I start stripping everything off and I'm jumping and shaking and I'm like my hair's loose and I'm I'm looking like a complete fool. Everybody she's still on a team scaled dismute quick enough so that you can't hear me jumping and going ha ha ha like running around my room and then I have to pretend like everything's fine. And I'm like of course yes those are all wonderful ideas. Me and her hit mute again. Oh my god and I pick up the tick and I cr like crush it and I flush it and um oh and butt make it and so yeah so Sherry messages me and she says I found a tick.
SPEAKER_00I said oh honey that's terrible I said no I I have a look there's nothing on me I said I took my my clothes off you told me to put stuff in the dryer so it did that's perfect and so I came in and I'm sitting in my office here and I got my chair and my stool and my spa music and a candle and I'm reading my book and I'm just really enjoying the life I just it was it is so beautiful and I could feel something up near like my arm and I just thought so where was it actually I okay so it was it was on like this part of my shoulder like that my my neck shoulder and I went back like this and I thought comp and I have it in my hand and I'm looking like this and I let out the scream so I've got it in my hand right and I'm screaming for John John He goes running in and I I give the tip I like this and I jump up and I strip you see how big that window is and every ounce of everything I have off comes off. I'm now looking in toes and fingers and arms I'm I'm looking everywhere. I'm looking the whole body oh yeah and then I rip my hair and I'm doing this all of the things it was crazy. But if there was an opportunity for someone to have cameras running but your your head is like I there can't just be one that's what I said there can't just be one there's got to be more on me.
SPEAKER_01Yeah so I'm doing a full body scan oh I did everything from head to toe everything. So people ticks are out there a lot of yeah they are and I'm we it's not often I we have them now Oliver gets them quite frequently where he works because he's working outside all the time. So he gets he gets them on him and when he was a young boy he would have been about maybe eight years old and the place we were living at the time had it was very very tick infested. It was very bad. So he came in one time and I I he actually had the bullseye mark and he had to take some medication two rounds of of some antibiotics but he had a bullseye mark in his head it was right in his hairline and we removed the tick and I I kept thinking like I don't know if I got it all so we ended up going to the doctor but anyway Lyme disease is a serious thing and it's always good to take protection and look the next hike we go on I'm on knee high socks I bought myself some knee high socks.
SPEAKER_00Yeah I've got the socks I've got the tape the two-way tape you know but I got the two-way tape and everything so um we're not too bad with ticks in the yard uh I literally have created a concoction that John sprays it is with the cedar wood it's lavender it's eucalyptus and peppermint apparently garlic um oh people have been doing garlic sprays in their yard really yeah you should look into this we've done it smells like a pizza place when in some of the when you drive through Enfield sometimes you're like oh somebody sprayed for ticks it smells like pizza delight so anyways we have all of that going on around here for the ticks so um that was beautiful so now we want to talk about um a couple more metaphors one one with the other metaphor uh in life right um that I will I have because I thought it was cute cute nice whatever so we were both lucky when we were walking nothing really got into our shoe or anything along those lines but when you go on big lot rocks right big walks and hikes you can get pebbles in your shoe right and if you don't take the pebble out right it just it becomes an irritant and it's you know it's it it it just festers and it it makes the walk hard and the journeys hard and the hike is impossible and all of that. So if you don't stop and address the pebble in the shoe all right you're always going to have a hard time on your hike. And in life if you don't stop and address the things that are causing you pain, issues, a hiccup, a pebble in your shoe your journey's just gonna get harder and harder the the hike will be hard instead of it. So instead of trying to get to the destination why don't you take the pebble out and enjoy the journey goodness. Thank you. Thank you think I I'm so smart that sound that was great. That's a great metaphor. Yeah I thought it was a great metaphor really you got more I'm I'm definitely no no no no I was I didn't write the there was a lot like I mean there's there's a lot of metaphors when you mean uphill uh well there's a lot of hiking uphill that's right right and there was the whole metaphor about journey and destination right I bet I said that though on my train ride from here to Oshawa and back again. I kept saying like there's no destin like the destination I suppose was for me to get to my children but that journey I took was was so soul enriching for me. I mean having 26 hours of really no social media content whatsoever because you can't get like you're driving through New Brunswick and all those rural areas you can you've got very little Wi-Fi. There's very little Wi-Fi or data usage. You just can't so it's write your thoughts read your books listen to your music watch that window I mean that destination that journey that I took was beautiful right so uh you know remove your pebbles from your shoes people and start enjoying it for those who don't know Claudia took a train ride from from yeah from Halifax to Oshawa. I did and I did it in February. I did not want to be on a plane in February. I wasn't driving in February there's no way I was going to sit in an airport and watch planes come and go while I sat there for six eight or twelve hours when I could have been laying very beautifully in my lovely little suite I had on via rail and I had service that was just to die for amazing I mean everything about that entire thing was absolutely yeah just make it more affordable for everyone is it's sad because it's a great way to travel oh I there's not enough words and the staff I mean there was every one of them was absolutely outstanding like just over the top helpful amazing beautiful people and I mean that so truthfully so on our our hike and our journey talks here today uh we also have our walk ourselves what are we going to do next week you and I oh goodness okay so one step better you mean yes one step better okay so I I mean let's be honest I haven't really picked anything really deep for for one step better and I mean I was struggling and then I was sick and we're not talking about that anymore.
SPEAKER_01But um so I have an idea and I've always wanted to try I love baking baking is like a so good at it.
SPEAKER_00Well I mean I think I think I I love it. It's something I love to do. Well I'm gonna challenge you before you even tell me what you're gonna do here. You're gonna put some pictures up of all the stuff you do because you are tell it well thank you all those cookies you do come on thanks and those cakes I do love them.
SPEAKER_01So I um have I have something I want to try and I had Father's day I was going to do a Mother's Day but then I I got so sick I didn't try it but um I have a lovely kitchen that doesn't get used right at this new this place that Charles and I built and it's empty now. So I thought I'd make it a kitchen a big kitchen and I have these little mini cakes that I'm gonna do for Father's Day I think I'm gonna try. I'm gonna theme them they're gonna be flavored and I'm just gonna put it out there and maybe they'll maybe they'll do well maybe they won't I don't know but I don't know unless I try right oh I love it OMG. Okay I'm gonna try. I'm just gonna try I'm gonna give I'm just gonna give it a whirl maybe that's a round of applause I'm so excited I really am excited about it. Sure and I've said it out loud so now it's like I said my thing out loud that I was terrified. Now it didn't take me two weeks to get there but I did it all right yeah and I'm I'm I'm excited I think I'm gonna do another one right with somebody soon right yes so that bravo to you and me all right okay so I I started this weekend actually doing my one step better and it's uh going to all of these very small thrift stores uh so not the big ones that are out there and all of that we're talking real small thrift stores okay so you've I don't want to interrupt I'm sorry but I just have to throw it in there that you started you you found I've been I have said I wanted a stuff pheasant right you found one and you sent me the picture of this it was in Annapolis Valley. We were gonna go we were gonna go anyway we found out the tail wasn't attached. Yeah and it was uh she was a little rough around the edges I mean she'd seen some things yeah this this bird's been on the streets she's been walking the streets she's been walking the streets way too she was she's been she was a little she was a little rough around the edges so we took a pass but I mean the price was but comparable people passed her this she was rough I was gonna call her lady lady Catherine de Bird what I was gonna call her Catherine de Bird yeah Lady Catherine de Bird gone but not game gone but not game so but she'd seen some things so okay but I'm just so proud of you that you're doing this thrift it's thrifting and I did not want to hijack that story but please tell me because I was so proud of you like you've and I've been looking for a long time and I have not found one.
SPEAKER_00When I saw her I was so excited I know now it was a photo and everything and it was an older thrift store and it was two hours away. So I am looking for very small thrift stores that are very unique and um and they're going to be anywhere. Now if I have to drive two hours I drive two hours right and I've I haven't narrowed it I'm doing all of Nova Scotia so I'm I'm doing that whole span and I'm going to see what are in these very small um unique thrift stores and I'm not looking for anything in particular I'm just I just want to go and see what's there and you know I've got all this space that I I would like to put something quite uniquely different in and that's what I'm looking for. So that's what I'm doing. I'm loving all that yeah I know I'm pretty excited. So the ones I saw this week uh were very tiny um and um I suppose because they're so close to true and everything they're you know it wasn't antique it was just reselling right where I'm kind of looking for that antique version of it right we should do that road trip up to Miss River again.
SPEAKER_01I know Glenholm Great Village there's a lovely collection of those I know okay how long did it take us to walk through that I know and it's just finding a treasure and it was Christmas time.
SPEAKER_00So it was I was so consumed with all of the Christmas ornaments and everything beautiful vintage ornaments I know it was beautiful.
SPEAKER_01Yeah so that's an idea I didn't go issue that yeah we will all right so this is where I'm at there's another fabulous place in the valley called the barn. Oh my goodness I think we need to do another road trip. Okay that place is really quite special.
SPEAKER_00So that's that's what we got going on. And on top of that I will have one more person that I will see and um if I if I get more confident with it then I I may you know have a couple of more people that I might think about doing.
SPEAKER_01But we're also gonna take another hike this week we're gonna do another hike and we're gonna go somewhere a little off campus. We're gonna go a little off roading like we're not a set trail I guess we're gonna dress appropriately and we're taking your list of what to put in our back yes uh and far more tick repellent stuff so that it doesn't uh I am going to wear a hat so it didn't go in my hair because I was really freaked out like to like I mean you know where there were still days like days later I'm still scratching my head to make sure like did it plant anything oh I know I had a like I had a shower like two days later and I'm like I'm still like oh my god they like the armpits are in my armpits I'm bending over I'm like it's where what crevices has a Tekron could possibly fit there's a lot these are visuals nobody in our audience needs to know about or think about yeah yeah ahead and why does such a tiny little thing terrifying so much yeah because once they're in there they're hard to get out I know it's disgusting anyways so um I think we've covered our our notes have we covered our notes today I think so I loved your version of take a hike all right now I could probably sit here and think of a dozen things that could take a hike oh right I mean I um one of my biggest things I'd like to calories to just take a hike oh yeah right so just just disappear yeah I mean I don't consume I just I I don't overconsume but every time I see the cookie or the thing that I'd like to have and I think to myself okay well you know if I have that I can't have this like no take hike if I want a peanut butter cookie and a chocolate peanut butter ice cream I'm gonna have that's right take a hike take a hike take a hike guild yes get out right walk that front door take a hike I love how you and I interpreted that so different isn't it funny that is come on that's hilarious yeah I mean take a hike and I'm thinking okay well what are we gonna do on our hike literal literally what are we gonna do on the hike there Sherry metaphorically going that journey through this all these things I want to just to get rid of.
SPEAKER_00All right Cher listen uh once again love of my life coming here and having these conversations with you it's just I love it. SPEAKER_01So I just put a hummingbird feeder outside my kitchen window.
SPEAKER_00I saw it and I saw your hummingbird approach it and sit on it. I love it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah I know that was the best decision I don't know why it took me so long I don't know I have a hummingbird feeder here I have one on the back I think dad had one and I thought well I'm not gonna compete with his you know what I mean I'm not gonna I'm not gonna steal them away he enjoys them so dad saw a hummingbird yesterday right there right in front of him oh excellent good good good so mix pleased with all of that love that take us out share take us out all right everybody thanks so much for spending time with us today we are so grateful that you chose to be part of our conversation we would love to hear from you share your thoughts your stories or just say hi you can reach us at worth the walk podcast at gmail.com you can reach out to us on Instagram and on Facebook at worth the walk podcast and your messages truly mean the world to us also download us anywhere you find your podcasts Spotify Apple Music can't wait to hear from you have a great week share you too claudette
